Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Can windows help me lower my energy bills?
Yes! Windows lose heat in three major ways - through the glass, around the sides of the window (old weather stripping or none) and from conduction through the frame. Todays windows contain insulating double paned glass that has been customized and designed to stop hot or cold air from going in or out.
What are the advantages of replacing my windows with vinyl?
Vinyl is great because it will not deteriorate, rust or rot and can basically be shaped into any design. Unlike wood which is known to swell, warp, rot, crack, and also requires continued up-keep (ie painting).
What does Low-E stand for?
And what is it?
Low E stands for low emission. It's a microscopic metallic coating applied to a glass surface that reflects and radiates heat energy into or out of a home depending on climate conditions. Your carpeting, furniture, and drapes can be protected using Low E glass because it filters out damaging UV light.
What is Argon gas?
And how is it used in my windows?
Moving air carries energy. The secret to insulating is to get air as still as possible.
Argon is in the air we breathe and is completely harmless when pumped between window panes. Its purpose is to prevent hot or cold conditions from moving the air. Less air movement = better energy efficiency!
